Bernanke says central bank ready to take 'substantive additional action' to cut interest rates in order to support lagging economy.

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said in a speech Thursday that the central bank is prepared to continue lowering interest rates in order to help keep the economy on track.

He also reiterated that the Fed does not believe the economy will slip into a recession this year.

"We stand ready to take substantive additional action as needed to support growth and to provide adequate insurance against downside risks," Bernanke said in prepared remarks before the Women in Housing and Finance and Exchequer Club in Washington, D.C.

When he made a comment as such, how can we benefit from that? i cannot see any. I heard that via Forex, when such news/action occurs, they can make 'some'. Any idea?

Wait for the announcement - now ppl are expecting 50bps cut. So 50bps would probably not able to lift the market/kill the dollar. A 75bps would do the trick.
Well, this the general concept. Works more than 50% of the time. But... not 100%. Take your own risk. I am waiting for the FOMC with much anticipation :)

If interest go down, people will keep less money in US bank and move to foreign countries of higher interest. Currency will drop. Now shorting the USD is the move preferred by Forex folks. Forex is more speculative than stocks. Warren Buffet's advice: Stay away.

Warren Buffett is probably shorting the USD right now!!! It would be his first shorting of USD...

Is it speculative? Well, it depends on how we look at it.
Buffett's empire mainly deals with USD. So, if USD keeps plunging, his empire will decline. Any bets on USD plunging would be a hedging tool for him. Then that is not really speculative to him, is it?

George Solos maybe. Warren Buffet may be taking a good nap at home while his elite staffs short on his behalf. The good thing is that he doesn't "talk down" the economy. George Solos has been since end of 2006. Economy is very psychological sensitive. Anyway, it's about buy and sell. You just need to influence people to buy, the price will go up. If the news is about the USD going to slide, people will refrain from buying now, and the price (demand) drops. So are stocks, food, commodity products, etc.

OhDeer,
With all due respect, you may want to google Warren Buffett shorting USD... its not the first time. And I do not think trading/investing is about patrotism...

He still doesn't learn after this incident?

http:// www.smh.com.au/news/ business/buffett- cuts-forex-loss- after-12b-hit/2005/ 11/07/ 1131212004579.html? oneclick=true

Someone who never lost such a big sum as reputable as he is?

Good luck to him then.

For those who like play with forex: it's 24/7 unlike stock market. Second counts. Sound exciting? Those who short (or make the right call) earlier will make money from those who short later. Good luck!

Few months back, I remember reading he was bearish on the dollar again.
Wouldnt be too surprised if this round he recovers his previous losses.
